Why transformer is rated in KVA instead of KW?
As seen, Cu loss of a transformer depends on current and iron loss on voltage. Hence, total
transformer loss depends on volt-ampere (VA) and not on phase angle between voltage and current
i.e. it is independent of load power factor. That is why rating of transformers is in kVA and not in kW.

What do you mean by real, reactive and apparent power?
(1) Real Power: (P)
Alternative words used for Real Power (Actual Power, True Power, Watt-full Power, Useful Power, Real Power, and Active Power)
In a DC Circuit, power supply to the DC load is simply the product of Voltage across the load and Current flowing through it i.e., P = V I. because in DC Circuits, there is no concept of phase angle between current and voltage. In other words, there is no Power factor in DC Circuits.

The two electric bulbs of 60W and 100W are given. Which one will be brighter when they are connected (i) In Series and (ii) In Parallel? And Why?
1. The resistance of a 60W bulb is much more than that of 100W bulb. When they are connected in series. 40W bulb will be more brighter (where P=I^2R).
2. When the two bulbs are connected in parallel, the 100W bulb will be more brighter (where P=V^2/R).
